Dr. Karla Kaun recently received a Brown University Salomon Faculty Research Award to learn about how new drug policies in Vancouver, British Columbia, are impacting the way people perceive and treat alcohol and substance use disorders. Her goal is to spend time thinking of ways to best communicate the new concepts scientists are discovering about the molecular basis of addiction in ways that physicians and non-scientists would understand, and to figure out effective ways of integrating concepts of how alcohol and drugs of abuse affect the neurobiology of brains with science-driven public policy decisions.
